High Street and Town Hall Square

ID: PHO000910_01          Collection: Alan McIvor

Location:               Era: Early 20th century

A Colour tinted slide of some locals having a blether outside Charles Angus which was a butchers up until the late 1970s. They then moved across the road just out of view of this shot. The old bus is waiting to go to Wick and is situated outside the old Library and Museum. Next door is the Town hall and next to that was Horne's Shop which was a hairdressers at the rear and a general merchant's at the front where children could get buckets and spades for the beach, also ice cream and all sorts of food provisions. This later was taken over by Woolworth's in the 1950s. Further up is the old houses and shops which is now known as The Arcade.
