Welcome to Thurso Interactive

Items available: 4258

Created by the Thurso Heritage Society, this website aims to bring you first time access to private collections of photographs, artifacts, maps, videos, and other items relating to the historic town of Thurso past and present.

You can search the database by clicking the search button at the top of the page. Who knows what you will find.

If you have information, items, collections, or stories which you feel should be digitised for this project, then please use the contact page to get in touch with us. We would be very interested to work with you to make this the most complete archive of Thurso history and information.

What sort of stuff will I find on here?

At the moment there are 4258 digitised items on the database, and these include...

Photographs Videos
Personal video histories 360° views
360° rotations Personal audio histories

How can I get involved?

There are lots of ways you can get involved with Thurso Interactive and the Thurso Heritage Society. We rely on volunteer help, so every moment of your time or resources is very gratefully received.

  1. Share the knowledge - If you see photographs or other items on here and you have information about them (even if it's an old story that your grandfather told you), then you can send us the details simply by clicking at the bottom of the item's display page and filling in the form with your story. This information will then be incorporated into the database and added to the site.
  2. Share your time - The digitisation of these items takes a great deal of time, and many hands make light work. In addition to this is the uphill task of adding information to the database about each item, and so we need as many Thurso ‘experts‘ as we can get our hands on to keep this project growing.
  3. Share your collection - We are always happy to add collections to our database, and by collections we simply mean "interesting stuff from the local area." This might include family photographs, postcards, paintings, shop receipts, maps, videos, cine film, medals, trophies, or absolutely anything else that relates to the town past and present. Sharing doesn't mean giving your stuff away, it simply means allowing it to be digitised so that it will be preserved for future generations.
  4. Share your wealth - Donations to the society are always welcome, and every penny that is received will go towards the preservation and promotion of Thurso past and present.
  5. Join the society - We are always looking for interesting and enthusiastic members who have a vested interest in the local area. The Thurso Heritage Society has been in existence 1981, and in order to make sure that our work continues in the coming years we welcome new members who are willing to give a little of their time and expertise to our projects.
